Philadelphia’s network of Financial Empowerment Centers provides free one-on-one financial counseling with professionally trained counselors to help clients transition from debt management to saving.
The Financial Empowerment Centers launched in March 2013 with the generous support of Bloomberg Philanthropies. The project is a joint initiative of the Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment & Opportunity and its partner, Clarifi, the region’s leading financial counseling non-profit.
As part of the city’s Shared Prosperity program to fight poverty, the Financial Empowerment Centers help to move people towards financial independence.
About the Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment & Opportunity
In January 2013, Mayor Michael Nutter launched the Office of Community Empowerment & Opportunity (CEO), recognizing that the scale of poverty in Philadelphia requires a collective response of equal magnitude. CEO’s mission is to align the city’s effort to lift individuals and communities out of poverty and increase opportunities for low-income individuals and families.
CLARIFI strives to create hope by helping people identify and secure the most important assets in their lives. They envision a future where everyone will have affordable access to the intellectual and technological resources required to comprehend and master the financial aspects of their lives. They seek to bring clarity, hope, and empowerment to their clients and help them gain lifelong financial literacy.
